Travel is for everyone!

Enrico (Rick) Saltarelli, ACC

Travel is such a tremendous experience for everyone.  I was able to start travelling more extensively for pleasure when I was in my thirties and have had the pleasure to travel to Europe, Asia, Central America, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, North Africa, Britain and most of Canada and the United States.

The more we travelled, the larger our bucket list has become, and I plan to get to all of those places that are on my list.  As we reach maturity, we sometimes wonder if we will have the physical ability to get to all of these places, but the good news is that there is help available.

When we started our travel careers, we decided that we would include products and services that would be available to everyone, but especially those with accessible travel needs.  My wife, and partner, knows firsthand what it is to have a minor walking disability and knows the freedom that can be gained by using aids to daily living to keep up with our desired travel pace.  One of our great memorable experiences is standing on the Great Wall of China, a few months after she had knee replacement surgery.  To this end, we became Special Needs Group Certified Accessible Travel Advocates.

Special Needs Group is a Florida based company that provides specialty equipment for those that are travelling both foreign and domestically.  While their specialty is for cruise ships, they also offer services for those planning land based travel such as hotels, resorts, theme parks and convention centers.  They work with those that arrange travel for others to understand the needs and correct equipment to help make travel more enjoyable and accessible.

We feel that disabilities do not reflect abilities, and every person that has an interest in travel, should be able to go.  By partnering with Special Needs Group, we can provide a broad range of special needs equipment, including wheelchair, power chair and scooter rentals, oxygen units and oxygen rentals, audio and visual aide rentals, baby crib rentals and other essential items.  For customers’ convenience, rental equipment is delivered directly to the cruise state room, the hotel or at the airport.

This is a great service for those that do not want to bring their equipment from home, but would like to have it when they reach their destination.  How convenient is that!  Additionally, this is a great service for those that are considering putting off their travel plans because they have a temporary disability, are recovering from post-surgery, or just feel that they may need assistance with a relaxed pace of walking

If the thought of travelling because of disability or mobility has you thinking you can’t travel, please understand that there is compassionate help for you.  Don’t put off your travels plans; continue to travel and keep growing your bucket list of interesting places to visit.
