Norwegian Escape

We were fortunate to be included in the christening ceremony for the Norwegian Escape in November 2015 and then enjoyed the two day inaugural sailing from the Port of Miami.  We had sailed on her sister ship; the Norwegian Getaway, just a few weeks earlier and absolutely loved it.  We were looking to see what changes, if any, had been made.  I give Norwegian Cruise Lines a lot of credit. They have created a beautiful class of ships and made some nice improvements between the Getaway and the Escape.

The entertainment was incredible, especially the shows in the Escape Theatre; After Midnight and Million Dollar Quartet.  I have not been to a theatre performance on a cruise line where the entire theatre was standing for the last ten minutes of the performance like they were for Million Dollar Quartet.  The Rat Pack Supper Club is an addition to the Escape in place of Getaway’s Illusionarium.

The Ropes Course is expanded and doubles the ‘walk the plank’ experience for those who want to have their picture taken over the edge of the ship!  The basketball court looks to be full size and families will enjoy the excellent Mini Golf and new Bocce areas.  Although there is no climbing wall on the Escape, the four multi-story waterslides will keep you coming back time after time.  You can feel the thrill on Aqua Racer, the tandem waterslide, or raise your heart beat on Free Fall.  If leisure is more your style, head to the open-flume Family Slide.  There is water fun for all ages, as you can watch the littlest ones enjoy their time at the Kids Aqua Park.

Ready to eat?  With the number of restaurants available, you really do have Freestyle Dining.  Enjoy dessert at the Bake Shop and Dolce Gelato, an excellent buffet at the Garden Café or snack 24 hours a day at O’Sheehan’s Bar and Grille.  When dinner rolls around head to Savor, Taste, or The Manhattan Room where you can dine and dance to a variety of music. Looking for something special?  Make your way to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Bayamo by Jose Garces, Cagney’s Steakhouse, Food Republic, Teppanyaki, Pincho Tapas Bar by Jose Garces, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria, or La Cucina.  With the waterfront on deck six, many of these locations have the opportunity for you to dine outside while the world cruises by.  Specialty dining venues have varied cover costs or a la carte pricing.

The day is not done until you head to one of the many lounges on board.  With the Cellars, a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar, Sugarcane Mojito Bar, The District Brewhouse, O’Sheehans Bar and Grill, Tobacco Road and the It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere Bar, you will have plenty of choices.

When the day is done, you get a great night’s sleep in the multitude of accommodation choices available.  We really liked the funky studio staterooms for solo travelers which includes their own Studio Lounge for socializing.  With Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites for every budget, guests will be able to recharge their batteries for the next day’s fun or port of call.

Celebrating something special has its answer in The Haven, a special ship within a ship, where you can enjoy private dining, a private lounge, a private pool, private sunbathing and luxurious accommodations, all while being tended to by your butler.  If you want to enjoy luxury along with the benefits of large ship freestyle cruising, this is a great option.
