MSC Cruises ordered two 5,300-passenger “futuristic” ships for delivery in 2017 and 2018.

I was interested to see the news release on May 22, 2014 that MSC Cruises had placed an order for two 5,300-passenger ships.  With two bigger vessels already under construction MSC Cruises will be operating 16 ships by 2019.

The latest order is for two ships of a new “futuristic” class called “Seaside,” named for a sea-level promenade that circles the ship with outdoor spaces, shops and restaurants. I have seen artists renditions of what this will look like and I love it.  A stroll around the deck will be an enticing new pleasure for the senses.  Watch for news on these ships as we near their inaugural cruises in November 2017 and May 2018

I have often commented that MSC Cruises is the largest cruise line you have never heard of and those who have not heard of them may be surprised to know how large they are.  We have the beautiful MSC Divina operating all year from Miami; however you need to travel to other warm waters like the Mediterranean to see how many ships they have.

I am also impressed with the fact that MSC Family Cruises is family owned.  This is evident in the way they respect and welcome families aboard their ships.  I really like their ‘Kids Sail Free’ program.

If you are planning a trip to the Mediterranean, you may want to consider MSC Cruises, not only for their beautiful ships, and European service, but also for their itineraries.  They call on some ports that are missed by other ships and on some itineraries you can shorten the number of days of the cruise to fit your schedule. (Based on availability)

Growing from 5,000 berths on somewhat older ships in 2003, MSC Cruises now can boast of close 39,000 berths on their current 12 ships and they continue to grow.   They love to call themselves the Masters of the Seas, because of their deep roots in the maritime shipping industry, however with the growth they have enjoyed over the past ten years they are now a force within the cruising industry that needs to be a serious consideration for one of your future cruises.
