Disney Cruise lines was the first cruise line to have lifeboats that are yellow and not the regulated orange color and they had to get special permission from the US Coast Guard to do so. The yellow boats are meant to be the same color as Mickey Mouse's shoes. The entire ships are Mickey color scheme — the hull of the ship is black, the superstructure is white, the funnels are red, and the trim is yellow.
Did you know that Disney uses stars for direction?
The hallways on a ship can be confusing but on Disney you can direct yourself by looking down at the carpet, since the stars on it always point toward the front of the ship. On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, you can also remember what side of the deck your room is on by looking at the clips on the side of your door. The starboard side rooms have starfish clips and the port side rooms have fish clips.
Did you know Minnie Mouse is actually Captain Minnie on a Disney ship?
Captain Minnie was introduced in 2019 because Disney wanted to help inspire the next generation of female leaders in the maritime industry. The initiative also included the debut of a new youth program where Captain Minnie Mouse teaches young guests the science, technology, engineering, and math skills that are needed for success on an ocean-liner.
Did you know Disney has a private island?
Located in the Bahamas, Disney's private island is called Castaway Cay which has a wonderful beach for families with fun activities. However Disney is not just for kids so they also have an adults-only beach called Serenity Bay with a dedicated lunch and bar area.

Throughout the ship, guests can have unlimited, free ice cream from designated machines. For guests willing to splurge a little, some of their ships also offer gelato shops where you can buy themed sundaes.

On both the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream, you will hear quite a few familiar Disney songs when the ship blows its horn. The captain and crew may choose to play “When You Wish Upon a Star" or "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" or "It's a Small World" or "Be Our Guest" or "Do You Want to Build a Snowman"
Did you know you can use fireworks made of "fish food."
Fireworks at sea are rare and Disney claims to be the first to wow their guests with fireworks. It is quite amazing that the fireworks shells are made of special biodegradable materials, which Disney calls "fish food."
Did you know Disney Cruise Lines premieres new Disney movies on their ships?
On Disney cruises, new movies typically get a midnight premiere on the same day the movie premieres in theaters and then continue to show these new releases thereafter.
Did you know even Mickey Mouse cannot cruise with just one outfit?
Disney packs a whole wardrobe for its beloved characters like Mickey, Donald Duck, Minnie and more. Every night Mickey and the gang are dressed in something different that matches the activities on the ship - like formal attire or a pirate-themed garb. They might also wear the traditional dress of the port of call.
