Caribbean Princess
Published Sunday, January 4th 2015We recently enjoyed a five night cruise on the Caribbean Princess. We have sailed on Royal Princess before so we would not be disappointed. The Caribbean Princess is nicely appointed and we were treated to some of the nicest wait staff at sea.
This ship will appeal to those who are interested in the dining on board experience;
- The special Pub Lunch in the Crown Grille on sea days is a huge hit. Folks were lining up 30 minutes before the lunch started, to secure their spot.
- The food in the buffet area was some of the nicest selection we have enjoyed at sea, although I feel the layout of the Horizon Court and Café Caribe can be a little confusing.
- There is something very civilized about afternoon tea along with small sandwiches, sweet pastries and my favorite; freshly baked scones.
- We enjoyed the cooking demonstration with the Head Chef and galley tour that was held immediately afterwards. The tour was brief. however it provided a small insight into how large, how organized and how clean the food preparation areas are.
- Hector the head waiter in the Palm Dining Room missed his calling in life and dazzled us each night with two songs during dessert. A magnificent voice and attentive to our needs made for an endearing combination.
One confusing item for many is the access to the fifth floor for dinner if you are in the Palm Dining Room. The first evening was amusing as people tend to show up at the wrong dining room. It was further complicated because there are only two elevators that actually go to the fifth floor, to access the Palm Dining Room. This would be a small annoyance for those that are mobility challenged.
The Sanctuary was very inviting. This fee-extra, adults-only area is at the bow of the ship and is a great place to relax and be pampered. The adult only pool and the spa are just a few steps away.
Nothing separates the staff quickly as their attention to a child. We were traveling with a seven month old and she received a lot of attention from staff and fellow cruisers alike. Speaking of kids, the special area for the kids and teens is bright and spacious, with a lot of windows and an outside area dedicated to both the teens and the kids.
Entertainment was great. The Comedian was very funny. I liked the fact that the shows were not split between family friendly and adult only. In addition, it was great to sail on a ship that provided a combination of the Broadway Styled shows and the traditional fun shows like ‘The Marriage Game’ that stars members of the audience.
If you are ready for a food experience and an elegant style of cruising, keep Princess Cruises in mind. If you are looking to cruise on a medium sized ship with a great staff consider the Caribbean Princess.
